What I did
As a product designer, my role for this product was to create a user-friendly and visually appealing design that would meet the needs of the target audience. Specifically, my responsibilities included: conducting user research to better understand our target audience and their needs, creating wireframes and prototypes to test various design concepts and features, conducting user testing to gather feedback and refine the design, creating high-fidelity designs and visual assets for the final product
Goals
The main objective of Jeun was to create a social media platform for food enthusiasts that would foster a community of sharing and collaboration. Specifically, the goals were to: provide a platform for users to share their culinary creations and discover new recipes and meals, allow users to curate their search based on images and ingredient, enable users to generate meals/recipes based on what ingredients they have on hand, allow users to follow their friends and get likes, saves, and shares. Provide a user-friendly and visually appealing design that would engage and inspire users.

To better understand the landscape of food-related social media platforms, I conducted a thorough competitive research analysis. We looked at existing platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest, as well as specialized food apps like Yummly and BigOven. This research allowed us to identify gaps in the market and refine our product strategy.
1.
Popular platforms like Instagram and Pinterest have a significant user base that shares food-related content, but lack specialized recipe organization features.
2.
Specialized recipe apps like Yummly and BigOven have more advanced recipe search and customization features, but lack the social media and recipe sharing aspects.
3.
Target audiences for these platforms are often individuals who are interested in cooking, food culture, and healthy living
4.
Existing platforms are not effectively addressing the need for a user-friendly and comprehensive recipe sharing and organization platform that combines both social media and advanced recipe features.
5.
Best practices for designing a successful recipe sharing app include intuitive navigation, personalized recipe recommendations, social engagement features, and robust search and customization options
Target Audience
To gain a deeper understanding of our target audience, we conducted user interviews with food enthusiasts of different backgrounds, ages, and skill levels. From these interviews, we created user personas that represented the needs and goals of our target audience. These personas allowed us to design a platform that would meet the needs of a diverse group of users.
1.
Individuals who enjoy cooking and exploring new recipes
2.
People who are passionate about food and cooking
3.
Individuals looking for inspiration for their next meal
4.
Those who want to connect with others who share their love for food
5.
Users who want to easily curate and share their own recipes and meals
6.
The target audience is likely to skew towards a younger demographic, with a focus on millennials and Gen Z
7.
The app will cater to users who are active on social media and engage with food-related content online.
I conducted a user survey and created a questionnaire on google forms. You can find the questionnaire here.
1.
60% of the respondents share recipes with friends or family at least once a week.
2.
70% of the respondents have posted a recipe or food-related content on social media, with Instagram being the most popular platform (45%), followed by Facebook (35%) and Pinterest (20%).
3.
90% of the respondents consider it important or very important to be able to easily share recipes with others through an app.
4.
The most desired features in a recipe sharing app are: ability to save and organize favorite recipes (95%), ability to search for recipes based on ingredients (85%), and ability to rate and review recipes (70%)
